Thanks: HUGE thanks to Jeff Cressman for his time, dedication and keen ears. Thanks to the vocalists who gave their time and talent: Avotcja, Kenny, Kalil, Sandy and Madeline. To all those wonderful Bay Area musicians whose skills and dedication have helped to keep the ESO going. Thanks to Cyril, Boris and doubleOone for making this record happen. Thanks to 25th St. Studios, Fantasy Studios, and to Susan Muscarella and the staff at the California Jazz Conservatory, who have given us a new home base.

released June 14, 2019

The Electric Squeezebox Orchestra, a dynamic Bay Area 17 piece big band collective led by trumpeter Erik Jekabson, is releasing a new CD in June 2019 featuring the band in collaboration with voices. More specifically, the voices of the poet Avotcja and the singers Sandy Cressman, Madeline Eastman, Kenny Washington and Kalil Wilson. The new record, titled “Matter Is”, features arrangements and compositions by ESO members Sheldon Brown, Larry Delacruz, Erik Jekabson, Darren Johnston and Doug Morton which were worked out over the course of the bands’ five year run of residencies at Doc’s Lab in San Francisco and the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley. The tracks were recorded at Fantasy studios and 25th St. Studios, engineered and edited by Jeff Cressman and executive produced by Cyril Guiraud and DoubleOone. From covers of Duke Ellington’s “In A Sentimental Mood” and the Stylistics’ “People Make the World Go ‘Round” to the original Brazilian-influenced “Como Eu Quero Cantar” and the other-worldly poetry and modern grooves of “Matter Is”, the record highlights the incredible talent of the Bay Area’s jazz scene and the diversity of influences and styles that the Electric Squeezebox Orchestra brings to the table.
